BEHIND THE FORMULA

Creating Our First Botanical Body Cleanser

AUGUST 19, 2026

When we began developing our first body cleanser, we wanted to bring together two sides of MOUSSÉA — our connection to nature and our approach to formulation.

The forest became our starting point.

We looked at the textures, scents and botanical environments that have always surrounded Mossarium, then considered how those ideas could translate into something much more personal: a product used on the skin every day.

Nature, studied.

One ingredient we were especially interested in exploring was moss extract.

Moss has always been closely connected to our work and visual language. Bringing it into the formulation felt like a natural continuation of that story — not simply as an idea, but as part of a wider blend of botanical and skin-conditioning ingredients.

From there, we focused on how the cleanser actually performs on the skin.

A daily body cleanser should cleanse effectively, but it shouldn’t leave the skin feeling tight or stripped afterwards. We worked towards a formula with a soft, comfortable after-feel, supported by humectant and conditioning ingredients to help maintain moisture during cleansing.

The result is designed for everyday use: a satisfying cleanse with a softer, more comfortable skin feel after rinsing.

The scent of the forest

Scent became another important part of the formula.

Rather than creating one fragrance, we developed the first collection around four interpretations of a forest ritual:

Bergamot Forest Spa
Fresh citrus layered with a quiet woody character.

Geranium Botanica Spa
Green, botanical and softly aromatic.

Lavender Meadow Spa
Calm florals with a gentle herbal freshness.

Mandarin Orchard Spa
Bright citrus inspired by the warmth of a forest orchard.

Together, they became our Forest Spa Collection — four different moods built around the same daily cleansing ritual.

For us, creating the first MOUSSÉA body cleanser was never only about making something that cleans.

It was about finding a meeting point between botanical inspiration, formulation and everyday ritual — and turning a little of the world that inspired Mossarium into something that can become part of daily life.
